"Guerlain" Meteorites Miniatures Collection

I've seen the Guerlain Meterorites Miniatures Collection floating around on the internet for a while, even Sasa used to sell it for around $37 (no longer available). I thought it was a good deal since you get all 3 miniature sized meterorites plus a mini brush. So I went ahead and purchased it from ev*care the other day.

It came in a small box with plastic seal that looked like so. At the first glance, my husband said it looked "cheap". Yes I admit. Even within the plastic seal, there was some loose powder. I don't know if you can see it. Also the box seemed so thin and flimsy.

On the side of the box, the prints were kind of off the place.

The other side of the box, same with the 5 color off the place.

This is what's inside, still looking cheap. Again there's some loose powder all over.

The back of the packaging.

Comparing to the real meterorites on the left, apparently the label was printed cheaply.

The miniatures compared to the full sized ones side by side. You can see the full sized ones have a lot more details and look much better made.

The mini brush that came with it, very small.

Some paint on the handle was damaged. I wonder if this is what a Guerlain brush look like.

Now let's look at the powder itself. I have the 01 Mythic showing. Miniature vs. full size. I'm also showing the applicators on top of the lids. One is an ugly sponge and the other is a soft cotton puff.

02 Pink Fresh. Also showing the other side of the applicators. See how thick and meaty the cotton puff looks like.

03 Beige Chic. I took the applicators away so you can see the back of the lids. One is plastic and the other is cardboard paper.

From all three photo comparisons above, you can see the difference between the miniature and the full size. The balls look quite similar but once put together they don't look the same. Not even that, I'm pretty sure everyone is familiar with Guerlain's signature violet scent. The miniature set did have similar smell but only being cheap and powdery.

I wouldn't want to call these "fake" but I'll call them "fishy". They could be real but poorly made but I personally don't want to use them. I did a research on the internet and found out people got rashes after using these.

Also I come to question the authenticity of Sasa's miniatures collection. I've made a lot of purchases from the website and was always happy with the products. Hopefully the ones they sold was the real deal. It was just too scary to think about it.

UPDATE (July 9, 2010):

I actually did see the Miniatures Collection set from my local airport and it's selling for $75. However the packaging is totally different than this and it looks so much better made. Each box has its own little box inside. So I can safely say the set I bought was a fake. See the picture below.

that would suck if they are fake! i did hear stories about sasa selling fake or expired products but then again i have never had a problem with them, and i guess it totally depends on what you buy. maybe they made this not as nicely looking set kinda w/ the same concept as how mac holiday brush sets are not as good of a quality as regular mac brushes? hopefully that's the case, instead of it being a knock off, but then again, if ppl have gotten rashes from these (and hopefully not the real powder), that's concerning!!! :( it stil looks really pretty regardless :) I am curious what you use each of the colors for? do you use them together or separately depending on the day?

Hmm, interesting. I did expect some difference in quality between regular and sample-sized products, but I can imagine how this can be a bit more disappointing. Do they apply similar to the original, though?

They look pretty! I wanted to get some a while ago at a Korean market, and I'm thinking about going back there and picking them up now!

Hi, I LOVE your blog! I don't think those are fake, I think they were a set of minis made for an airport exclusive! I've seen them at airports...Sasa probably bought them and resold them...I don't think they'd fake airport exclusives, because those aren't the popular items..

Hi, not sure if your mini meteorites are fake, but I did purchased a set from airport duty free before and the containers are plastic, and some loose powder on the box was normal. However, I doubt if Guerlain would allow poor quality packaging & brush, but I can't say 100% that it is fake. I just bought another set from eBay last month, and it costed me $50 canadian. I thought that's pretty close the the retail price, so I believed it should be real, and the seller was located in Australia, so I bought it. Yesterday I received the item and omg it was FAKE! The item was sent out from Hong Kong instead of Aus, in addition to the poor packaging, the spelling is wrong on the brush, it was spelled "Gueilain". The seller wouldn't give me a refund because he said I opened the package. So beware of buying meteorites from ebay. So many fake ones around!!!! :'(

i dont think these are fake, there is two different versions if you look around online in legit beauty stores. There is that one that you have, and then the updated one that you showed a pic of .
