Lunasol Morning Wakening Massage

I've been using the Lunasol Morning Wakening Massage for quite a while. This product was first launched in 2006, then a year later, in September 2007 it was relaunched to "Morning Wakening Massage N" as a part of the Lunasol Skincare series.

I happen to have both versions on hand. I'm going to call them the "original" and "new". The square jar on the left is the new one and the round jar on the right is the original. I think they have very similar packaging even though Lunasol changed the jar material from glass to plastic. I personally slightly prefer the original packaging because glass jars always feel better.

On top of the lid, the new version has the brand name on it.

The new jar holds 40g while the original jar holds 50g.

The back of the original massage.

Inside the lid, the original one uses foam and the new one uses a plastic cap. Don't judge the color or consistency base on this picture because as you can see I'm almost done with the original. I think Lunasol did good on the new cap design. It seals a lot better with the inner lid and it's easier to clean up if the massage gets on the top of the lid.

Now let's look at the applicator. On the left it's the original version with the little tiny stick. The new version has a bigger and better applicator. Only one scoop I can get enough as I wanted.

Consistency wise, they're both very light and in gel form. Maybe the new version is a little thicker but not by a lot. They both smell refreshing with a faint alcohol floral scent. It doesn't bother me though because I really think the smell can somehow wake me up in the morning. And alcohol is just a typical ingredient in Japanese skincare product.

This is how you use it (I copied this from Lunasol website): Apply all over the face in the morning after washing the face. Gently massage in an outward direction with the fingertips for 20 to 30 seconds. Pat and press lightly all over the face with the palm of your hands.  Then, condition the skin with lotion.

Thoughts of the product: We all know how important it is to regularly massage our face to get rid of the waste and dead skin cells. Especially in the morning, massaging can help with blood circulation and that in the long run will slim down our face.

Normal massage products are either oil type or cream type so they won't get absorbed also it'd be easy enough to glide on our skin. I like it and I hate it. The good part is that it does so much good to my skin but it's also a hassle and mess to clean up. I only do it once or twice a week.

But for the gel-like massage, I don't need to worry about wiping it off or washing it off. In the morning I just massage my face then it gets absorbed without feeling sticky or greasy. If I really want a more refreshing feeling, I can always wipe my face with a lotion saturated cotton pad. Then I'm ready for the moisturizer and makeup. It has become a necessary skincare step for me.

Great comparison and review!
I had the Kanebo Sensai Silk 10 Seconds Awakening Essence, which came in a pump bottle, and I believe it's similar to this product.

I for myself didn't find it a necessary step to my daily skincare routine, as it didn't do much for me, so I skipped.

Ahh... I really have to learn how to massage my face properly. I can say, I never do facial massages myself. :/
